University for Peace (Costa Rica): An international institution of higher education for peace created by the United Nations General Assembly, Resolution 35/55. 5 December 1980. The University for Peace has the mission "to provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting among all human beings a spirit of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples, and to help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress in keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations."
Women Waging Peace: A multi-year collaborative venture of Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government-connects women addressing conflicts worldwide. The initiative breaks new ground by recognizing the essential role and contribution of women in preventing violent conflict, stopping war, reconstructing ravaged societies, and sustaining peace in fragile areas around the world.
